Aisha lived in her car with her four children, all under the age of 18. She had a full-time job, but a prior eviction, housing denials, and a low credit score felt like insurmountable obstacles in her effort to secure housing for her family.

We walked alongside Aisha through our bridge housing program, which provided temporary housing at a hotel while she met weekly with one of our case managers and engaged in financial counseling, housing navigation, and employment support.

During that time, she picked up a second job and saved $1,800 toward future housing expenses. Even so, she was denied by several apartment communities due to her history. Through our advocacy and community relationships, we were able to get her into a permanent home on May 8th. By the time she moved in, she had demonstrated financial responsibility and had a plan for long-term stability.

When she first came to us, Aisha couldn’t have done this alone. Her story shows that one mom with determination, when met with supportive services and community collaboration, can find the safety and stability that once felt so far out of reach. Aisha can take it from here.
