Samaritan Resource Center’s Executive Director, Zeynep Portway, penned an op-ed in the Orlando Sentinel making the case for why displacing or defunding SRC would make homelessness worse, not better. Portway emphasizes that SRC’s neighbors are not outsiders drawn in from elsewhere, rather, they are East Orlando residents who have been priced out of housing in a region tied for the most severe shortage of low-income housing in the entire country. She points to concrete 2025 outcomes: nearly 2,500 individuals served, 128 people placed in employment, and 648 moved into stable housing. Portway also invites the community to continue the conversation at SRC’s upcoming Town Halls.
