At 68 years old, Samantha deserved a home. For over a year, she lived in the woods.
The pandemic had taken her job. Housing displacement took the rest.
She had asked for help before, but nothing came of it. She was understandably hesitant to trust the process again.
Our Outreach Team kept showing up, week after week, right where she was. Slowly, something shifted. Quietly, hope began to return.
Samantha toured an apartment with our Housing Navigator and fell in love. For the first time in a long time, something felt like home. When that unit fell through, she applied to the complex anyway, with faith and patience.
Unexpectedly, a door opened. A unit became available within her budget. On March 23rd, our team packed her belongings from the woods and walked her into her new home.
Days later, a full household of furniture was donated to Samaritan Resource Center from an estate. Samantha was able to select the items she needed to fully furnish her apartment and truly make it hers.
Samantha says it all feels unbelievable. We say: this is what community looks like when neighbors help their neighbors.
No one should walk the road home alone. Thank you for making sure she didn’t have to.
