In March 2025, a car accident changed everything for one of our neighbors. He lost his CDL, his job, and soon after, his home. But his story didn’t end there.
When he walked through our doors, we didn’t just see someone without housing. We saw a man with skills, drive, and a dream — someone ready to rebuild.
He dreamed of a new path in IT, so we walked alongside him. We connected him with training and to CareerSource, who found him full tuition coverage.
Because he had no stable place to study, we provided hotel assistance through our Bridge Housing Program so he could focus, learn, and grow in dignity.
Week after week, his instructor reported the same thing: excellent performance, full commitment, and a determination that never wavered.
After six weeks, he completed the program, but the IT job market was tough, and rejections came.
Rather than give up, he and his Employment Specialist paused, reassessed, and pivoted, returning to the CDL path with fresh eyes and renewed purpose.
Samaritan Resource Center helped cover a toll violation, drug testing fees, and CDL reinstatement costs — the practical barriers standing between him and a future.
Within weeks of reinstating his license, he was hired as a truck driver in Philadelphia earning $2,500–$2,800 a week. The company even flew him there.
Before he left, he expressed deep gratitude for every person who walked with him through the setbacks, the pivots, and the breakthrough.
A few weeks later, he checked in. He’s on the road, meeting his obligations, and moving forward — one mile at a time.
His journey reminds us: plans may change, but with the right support and people in your corner, restoration is always possible.
This is what neighbors helping neighbors looks like. This is Samaritan Resource Center.
